Brake repair at your home or office: pads, rotors, calipers, hoses and fluid. Charlotte brakes work harder than highway brakes, because stop-and-go traffic puts far more heat cycles through a set of pads than open miles do. Call 704-842-9774 and describe what you hear.
We carry pads, rotors, fluid and the tools to finish the job in your driveway or parking space.
Measured, Not Guessed
Pad thickness and rotor runout get measured and the numbers shown to you, so you can judge the work yourself.
Describe The Noise
Call 704-842-9774 and say what you hear and how the pedal feels. A squeal, a grind and a pulse are three different faults.
We pull a wheel, measure the system, price the work, then repair it on site and bed the new parts in on a road test before we leave.
1
Give us the year, make and model and the symptom. That is usually enough to bring the right pads and rotors on the first visit rather than making a second trip.
2
You get pad thickness in millimetres, rotor measurements against the minimum stamped on the part, and the fluid condition, before anything is replaced.
3
New parts fitted, hardware cleaned and greased, fluid bled if it has taken on moisture, then a road test to bed the pads properly so they do not glaze.
Brake work needs jack stands and tools rather than a lift, so it is well suited to a driveway. No tow, no waiting room, no second trip to collect the car.
Brakes fail an inspection more often than almost anything else, and in North Carolina that matters twice over: an annual safety inspection is required before you can renew a registration, and in Mecklenburg County it is carried out alongside an OBD emissions check. A fair share of our brake calls start with a failed inspection sheet in somebody’s hand. The other thing worth knowing is that city driving eats pads faster than the mileage suggests. A commute that crawls on Independence Boulevard or through the I-77 merge north of Remount Road puts hundreds more brake applications into a week than the same miles on open highway, so a car doing modest annual mileage can still need pads on a short interval.
Brake repair covers the parts around the pads as much as the pads themselves, because seized slides and swollen hoses ruin new components quickly. It sits under Auto Repair Shop Charlotte.
When the measurements say repair is no longer honest, the job becomes a full replacement of pads and discs together. That is covered by Auto Brake Replacement Charlotte.
The brake repair calls that come in most often around Charlotte, and what each usually turns out to be.
A squeal at low speed that quietens once the brakes warm up. Normally the wear indicator touching the rotor, which means the friction material is near the end. Common on short-trip cars where the brakes never get properly hot.
A grinding noise under firm braking. That is usually metal on metal, the pad backing plate against the rotor face. At that point the rotor is being cut and the job doubles, so it is worth stopping and calling.
A failed inspection sheet listing brakes. We read the sheet, measure what it flagged, fix what is genuinely below limit, and get the vehicle ready for its retest without adding items that were not on it.
Common brake repair questions: what the noises mean, what we can do on site, and how brakes affect the annual state inspection.
1
Cars, SUVs, light trucks and vans. Brake work on heavier trucks goes through our truck repair service.
2
Squealing, grinding, a pedal that pulses or sinks, a pull to one side, or longer stopping distance. Call 704-842-9774 with the symptom, and if the pedal is sinking say so, because that one means stop driving it.
3
Yes. We measure the rotor against the minimum thickness stamped on it. If there is material left it can be machined; below that figure it has to be replaced, and we show you the reading either way.
4
Once a year alongside the state inspection covers most drivers. If your commute is stop-and-go on Independence Boulevard or around the I-277 loop, have them checked sooner, since city miles wear pads faster than highway miles.
